Save with first aid – july 2023
*This program’s first edition took place in February 2022 when we offered a first aid course to the teachers in the 4 locations of the School Center for Inclusive Education in Băbeni, Vâlcea county. Back then we raised funds so that education be completed by the human act of helping in case of medical emergency. We are resuming this project because:
- When an adult falls, chokes or suffocates, the reaction speed is important. One must keep a cool head, act, check and let professionals know.
- When a child falls, the reaction speed is vital. One must keep all senses, contain angst, and act considering all the child’s particular traits.
Things do complicate when the child has several disabilities, mental retardation, autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, or associated disorders. Swift and firm intervention is fundamental.
For teachers working with children with special educational needs, it is highly possible that a child would face a crisis during classes. That is why the teacher must always be prepared to also be a rescuer, not only a good educator.
Although it wouldn’t seem like it, this month we are starting this action for 126 children at CSEI (School Center for Inclusive Education) Roșiorii de Vede, in the Teleorman county. We do this so that they always be safe and continue their therapies and make the progress they set their minds to make, so that the educational bit be matched by the human bit of aid in case of a medical emergency.
What will we do: with the help of George Cotoroană, voluntary at Foundation for SMURD, we will provide first aid training to 48 teachers at the School Center for Inclusive Education in Roșiorii de Vede. They need to be prepared in order to properly intervene in case of medical crisis and, thus, continue their educational work.
